A natural site not well-known: Thung Nai

The Thung Nai lake is only a hundred kilometers from Hanoi, which is nicknamed “the North-West Halong land bay”. This is a not well-known place to tourists. Therefore it is a peaceful place which attracts foreigners that are in love in the nature and even locals.

In the past, Thung Nai was a valley surrounded by forests with several animals seek refuge across the Black river.

In 1994, the Hoà Binh’s hydroelectric plant was built. Since then, Thung Nai became a big lake, and the Black river recovered the valley. Today, it is a natural site that is still bad-known but it has a high potential.

The best season to discover this site is the spring. Thanks to motorboats, visitors will have the opportunity to discover temples, waterfalls, to visit the Thac bo floating market and some villages.

On this site, you can visit the Thac Bo goddess temple by boat. This temple is dedicated to two goddesses, one is Dao and other is Muong. The legend says that in 1431, the Lê Thai Tô King’s army were fighting enemies in the Cat Han pass (in Son La province), had been trapped along the Black river. A Dao woman and a Muong woman asked to villagers to built rafts to helps royal army to cross the river. According to the legend, after their death, the women would continue to appear to help villagers to cross the river safety. To thank them, they dedicated the temple to them.

Finally, this is the perfect place for travelers who look for authenticity. Visitors can also go in the Thac Bo floating market and discover some typical products as fish, shrimps or crabs. In the middle of the lake, there are some little isles where there are hotels and restaurants.
